Ferret Cages

What kind of Ferrets Cages are best?

It is important to keep your ferrets indoors—and that means in the house not in the garage—as ferrets are extremely sensitive to heat, and dislike cold temperatures.

At the same time, ferrets are very inquisitive and will get into everything if they are let loose!  They will investigate every cupboard, book case, chair, plant, electric fitting, fridge, dishwasher, hole, window, door, curtain….everything!!

So, for your own and your family’s sanity, a cage is simply a necessity.  And get the biggest ferret cage you can afford.

A ferret cage needs to have a meal area, sleeping area, and bathroom area.  A multi–level ferret cage is a good way to:

·        save space inside your home

·        achieve the three separate areas

·        make life more interesting for the ferrets themselves

Their  sleeping area needs to be enclosed so that they can be in a dark quiet spot, and they like a separate area for their litter tray.

Make sure the shelves at the top levels are a good size and that there is not too much empty space that your ferret can fall into.

The ferret cage should be constructed of high quality wire, with spacing that is smaller than the ferret’s head.

Your ferret cage must have solid flooring.  Wire or mesh floors hurt the ferrets’ feet, and although you can train your ferret to use a litter tray, sometimes they do have accidents.

Make sure your ferret cage has a large door—if the door is too small it becomes difficult for you to move the litter box in and out and for you to be able to clean the floor easily.  A small door will drive you nuts!

If you are looking to ferret proof a room, then a good rule of thumb is that if the ferret’s head fits into a space, then their body will too.

Ferret Nation cages are recommended as the best cages you can buy.  They are strong, well designed and can be expanded if you get more ferrets.
